Dead by Plastic - If it was you?
Sea Debris
Marine debris, also called marine trash, is any human-made solid material that is disposed of or abandoned on beaches, in waterways that lead to the ocean, or in the ocean itself, regardless of whether disposal occurred directly, indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally. Dead seaweed, shells, carcasses or other naturally-produced materials are not included.
Marine debris, including plastics, paper, wood, metal and other manufactured materials is found on beaches worldwide and at all depths of the ocean. About 60%-80% of all marine debris is composed of plastic
Seabirds, turtles, marine mammals and fish can mistake floating trash for food; if ingested, it can choke them or block their digestive systems. Large debris, such as old fishing gear and nets, can kill animals by strangulation or prevent them from performing vital activities such as swimming or diving. Plastic trash smaller than 5mm (microplastic) poses an additional threat because it adsorbs toxic chemicals, including DDT and PCBs, which can cause cancers, weaken the immune system and make animals more susceptible to diseases and other infections.
More than 260 species are known to have ingested or been entangled by plastic debris (STAP 2011).
Of the 120 marine mammal species listed on the IUCN Red List, 54% are known to have ingested or been entangled in plastic debris (STAP 2011).
To gain people awareness about the sea debris that become a threat of ocean life. I made this poster by changing the perspective of the victim. What if the victim are not the animals but us, a human. Maybe if I can represent what that animals feel I can reach people hearth and make them aware about the Ocean life condition right now. I hope that with this poster I can gain more people awareness to think about the ocean by not throwing our waste into the ocean, especially small waste, because it can be real threat for our Ocean life.
The Making of
The first of all I create a sketch of the poster design, and after that I find and shoot some asset that needed for the poster based on the sketch that I made before. After that I use Adobe Photoshop to combine, arrange and manipulate that asset into something that I want according to the sketch that I made before. First I select the main subject by using Select and Mask option that included in Adobe Photoshop to separate the object with it background. after that create the environment by using gradient color and some brush to make a realistic environment and lighting.
The next step is adding some debris and thrash to make a dramatic effect and to give the audience a picture about how was the condition of our sea right now. I use blur gallery effect to make a depth of field effect, and next I add some color correction to give a final touch of the poster that I made. After that add some caption and headline to give another information and call to action to the audience.
I hope you like my work, and thank you
